| If you are involved in an accident – TIPS |
- Remain at the scene of the accident and keep calm
- Ensure that injured parties get appropriate help - call emergency services, if needed
- Unless someone’s safety is in danger, do not move the vehicle until the Gardai arrive
- Avoid admitting liability, do not give or offer money. Be careful of what you say – even casual remarks can be used in court
- Note damage, exchange vehicle details, names, addresses & phone numbers, insurer’s name and certificate number
- Note the Garda’s name and contact number
- Seek independent witnesses (2 if possible) and get their contact details
- Draw a sketch of the scene – take photos & measurements if possible
- Contact your vehicle insurance company and follow the instructions given to you
